Synergem has recently joined the Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies, Inc. (iCERT) to help foster and promote policies in the public safety sphere.Founded in 2005, iCERT is the only trade association exclusively representing commercial enterprises and software providers in the field of critical communications and emergency response technologies. In this role, iCERT has been instrumental in bringing the voice of private sector manufacturers and software developers into the rollout of enhanced public safety systems around the country.
One example of iCERT’s work has been to promote a broader understanding of the benefits of a network-based approach to deploying the Next Generation 9-1-1 systems as defined by NENA. A network-based approach, such as that pioneered by Synergem, provides a much faster and more economical path for jurisdictions to upgrade from “legacy” to NG9-1-1, and takes full advantage of the capabilities inherent in the NENA i3 specification. The success of iCERT’s efforts are evident in the announcement of major network-based upgrades such as that being deployed by Synergem in California.
Representing Synergem at iCERT
Representing Synergem at iCERT will be Myron Herron, President and CTO, and Bill Mertka, newly hired as Director of Product and Technology. Together these two individuals have more than 50 years of experience driving vision and change in the industry, which will prove valuable to iCERT programs such as the Innovation & Technology Committee and Interoperability Working Group.
