Easing the Transition to i3 by Enabling Your Service Providers
Telecommunications Service Providers (TSPs) typically utilize complex and expensive Time Division Multiplex (TDM) circuits to interconnect their serving offices to the legacy 9-1-1 network. In this legacy model, location is not provided by the TSP to the 9-1-1 network provider.
The i3 architecture for Next Generation 9-1-1 requires that the caller’s location be delivered with the call. To assist in this process, Synergem developed the i3-Interconnect™ service to provide TSPs with a cost-effective method of interfacing legacy networks with ESInets. i3-Interconnect™ is offered by Synergem to TSPs to facilitate their adoption of the NENA i3 requirement to present location in a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message to the Emergency Services IP network (ESInet). Leveraging Synergem’s network-to-network interface technology, TSPs can transition from the legacy TDM based interconnection, providing the i3 transition Protocol Internetwork Function (PIF), Location Internetwork Function (LIF) and NG9-1-1-specific Internetwork Function (NIF) elements to comply with emerging NENA standards.
i3-Interconnect™ leverages Synergem’s i3-Route™ patent-pending network-to-network interface and our carrier class ESInet. That network is provisioned with NENA i3 Core Services to provide TSPs with a highly resilient and extremely efficient method to obtain the caller’s location, identify available geo-relevant data elements and present a properly formatted call to an ESInet. Offered as a service to TSPs, i3-Interconnect™ provides TSPs with a cost effective solution to comply with emerging NG9-1-1 requirements.
