The Synergem Story

Synergem is a technology pioneer in the 9-1-1 call center industry. Launched as a system integrator and value added reseller, Synergem has evolved into a software manufacturer focused on developing innovative methods and technologies in support of emerging NG9-1-1 technologies. We were the first to market with SaaS-model, end-to-end IP systems built to NENA i3 standards.
Synergem’s mission is to provide innovative, public-safety solutions built to NENA’s i3 technology standards. We are NG9-1-1 leaders dedicated to helping public safety personnel serve the world’s citizens with communications that allow them to work smarter, faster, and safer.
Synergem’s EvolutionNet is the only ESInet built from the ground up to NENA’s i3 standards. It is a highly-reliable, fault-tolerant virtual infrastructure for NG9-1-1 services. The Evolution Suite of products brings enhanced functionality to our clients, enhanced intelligence to the network, and enhanced power – in the form of capacity, resiliency and security – to their systems.

Leadership Team

Mr. Herron has enjoyed a highly successful 27 year career in communications with extensive experience in multiple disciplines including operations, systems engineering and sales. Following his graduation from North Carolina State University with a BA in Business Management, he joined Sprint where he initially served as an Outside Plant Engineer charged with the deployment of networking and computer equipment. He later served in a series of senior engineering, operational and management positions. He then moved into a Data Sales manager position charged with leading a team in the design, proposal, and implementation of voice, data and video projects. In this capacity, he engineered complex systems including voice, structured wiring, fiber optics, ATM, SONET, Ethernet, token-ring, and outside plant systems.

Mr. Herron has consulted extensively with business leaders and educators, as well as local and state government officials in the deployment of voice, video, and data technologies. Some of his projects included the North Carolina Information Highway and a multimillion dollar voice and data network solution for North Carolina-based Lowe’s Hardware. Later, as an Operations Manager, he was responsible for all customer services, engineering services, project management and implementation services for central North Carolina.

Mr. Herron left Sprint in 1999 to serve as the Director–Sales and Engineering Services for a startup public safety systems integrator, where he designed solutions for some of our nation’s most mission-critical sites. His projects included the Kennedy Space Center and Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as well as several Department of Energy sites. After starting Synergem Emergency Service, LLC., he has enjoyed building a team of professionals collectively responsible for many industry changing innovations including patents impacting several NG9-1-1 standards as well as provisioning the nation’s first NENA i3 NG9-1-1 network.

Jeff brings over twenty-five years of experience in software product development, marketing and expanding the reach of new technologies, particularly in telecommunications for voice-related products, and most recently for speech analytics software. In his role as COO, Jeff is responsible for operational performance including managing product development and quality assurance with a focus on client implementation.  Jeff will also focus on building strong vendor partnerships across telecommunications and public safety industry.

Prior to Synergem, Jeff was Vice President & General Manager of the Legal Market business at Nexidia, Inc., the leading provider of speech analytics software. In this role, Jeff built a successful business helping law firms, corporate counsel and government regulatory bodies navigate changes when the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure declared that audio evidence would be treated just like any other electronically stored information for discovery purposes. Jeff built a network-based hosting solution and software licensing program that was eventually used by DOJ, CFTC, SEC, CFPB and clients that included more than 75 of the AmLaw 100 firms. He also built and managed a partnership channel strategy through e-discovery companies such as Epiq Systems, EY, Deloitte and many others.

Jeff also held various marketing experience specifically around the advancement of new technologies. He held product development roles at Cingular Wireless for all voice-related products and services. Additionally, Jeff has held executive positions at Linx Communications, Boston Technology and US West, Inc.

Jeff holds a Masters degree in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management.

With over 25 years of progressive experience delivering exceptional results in business planning, operational analysis, financial control and decision making, Ms. Hallman has guided operations and finance in closely-held private companies to public companies traded on NYSE and NASD.
Joel is responsible for leading Business Development and Sales at Synergem Technologies. Joel honed his technology skills early in his career, working for industry stalwarts NCR and AT&T, before moving to a series of early-stage tech innovators Octel and Interactive Intelligence. At Interactive Intelligence, Joel was responsible for building a Service Provider sales organization in the Southeast and across the nation. More recently in his career, Joel was the Director of Business and Channel Development for ShoreTel, a provider of Cloud and premise Unified Communications solutions, Director of Sales for NetSolve (Cisco acquired), an innovator of Managed Network Services, and Intellinet, an integrator of Microsoft BackOffice products and services. Joel contributed to successful IPOs for Interactive Intelligence and ShoreTel. Joel holds a BBA in Quantitative Business Methods from the University of Georgia.
A serial entrepreneur, Mr. Holt is the founding investor of Synergem Technologies.  He has served on the company’s board of directors since inception and was instrumental in assisting the company through its first obstacles and opportunities.

With his extensive experience in management, Frank was made CEO in October of 2016 to lead the company to its “next level of success.”

Frank earned his MBA at UNC-Chapel Hill and began his career at his family’s textile business where he grew the business from $14 million in revenue to over $50 million in six years.  The growth was accomplished both organically and through startup ventures and included two strategic exits.

In his spare time, Mr. Holt is a dedicated family man who enjoys CrossFit, reading and spending time with his friends and family.

Michael M. Holt has served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of CPB, Inc. since September 2012. Through its operating subsidiaries, CP Buckner Steel Erection and Buckner Heavy Lift, CPB, Inc. is a national leader in both complex steel erection and heavy lift crane sectors of the construction industry.

Prior to joining The Buckner Companies, Mr. Holt served as Executive Vice President of Angie’s List from August 2006 through August 2012. Mr. Holt was part of the founding of Angie’s List in 1995 and served on its board of directors until Angie’s List’s public offering in 2011.

Prior to joining Angie’s List, Mr. Holt held several leadership roles with various family businesses, including Holt Sublimation Printing and Products, Inc. and Holt Hosiery Mills, Inc. Mr. Holt also serves on the boards of Kingsdown, Inc., Offline Media, LLC, Holt Hosiery Mills, Inc., The Episcopal High School (Alexandria, VA) and Alamance Regional Medical Center (Cone Health).

Mr. Holt holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Davidson College (magna cum laude) and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Currently an active entrepreneur and investor, Mr. Kolassa led a successful career in the insurance industry, retiring as senior vice president of HUB International of Battle Creek in 2013. He has also served as owner of Infinisource of Coldwater, a company specializing in human resources and employee benefits. Mr. Kolassa served Battle Creek for two years as city commissioner, two years as vice mayor, and two years as mayor, and is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Olivet College and also active with the boards of Starr Commonwealth and Southern Michigan Bank and Trust. He is the former board chair of Binder Park Zoo.
Greg Wesner focuses his law practice on patent, trademark, and other intellectual property litigation and related counseling. Greg’s patent litigation experience includes work with pharmaceuticals and medical devices, laser telemetry, wireless infrastructure technology, high-speed scanning radio technology, algorithms for video and image compression, as well as sports equipment and hand tool designs. He also has substantial experience litigating trademark, Internet, and technology law cases. Greg was involved in the first lawsuit ever brought under the anti-circumvention provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”), in which his client defeated an effort to enjoin distribution of its file conversion software. He also counsels clients in IP matters, including patent due diligence and freedom to operate, brand development and enforcement, and trade secrets protection.
